For close to a decade, professional wrestling fans loved Clash of the Champions, a series of supercards that aired on TBS, featuring the biggest stars of first NWA and the WCW. Over the course of 35 events from 1988 through 1997, fans were treated to championship contests, grudge matches, and spectacular moments. Many of these matches have never been released on home video until now.

The Best of the Clash of the Champions, hosted by 3-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion and WWE Hall of Famer, “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, will highlight some of the greatest matches in the event’s ten-year history and features fan favorites Ric Flair, Sting, The Road Warriors, Lex Luger, the Four Horsemen, the nWo, and so many more.

What’s the difference between the Bluray and the DVD? SInce all the Clashes were in SD..? Is it worth getting the bluray instead?

  3. The DVD looks really shiny!

  4. G. Schire says:

Weak dvd project IMO. They should of put the AWA Best of St. Paul dvd set together.

    Thanks, the authority G. Schire.

It’s a minor thing but I really like the captions saying which matches the pictures are from.

i never noticed how similar the NWA logo is to the WCW logo before.
turn that NWA logo upside down, and you can see the inspiration for the WCW logo.
oh, and i too, always thought the NWA logo looks like it reads AWA. especially when on the green ring apron.

ANY WORD ON THE FYI EXCLUSIVE? HAS IT BEEN CONFIRMED? THANKS

    WOW This Should Be Good!!

  9. RabidHeat says:

I have all 35 events in a great quality set that I custom made for myself, so I don’t really see any need to pick up a 7-hour precis of all the events. But still, could they not stetch it to 9 hours at least over tree discs? It’s like purposely trying to cheap out and being SO blatant about it on the back cover. :(

The problem with these kinda sets also is that they don’t actually contain the “best” matches; just the ones with the highest profile stars (your Hogans, your Flair’s etc.) I do wish sometimes WWE would do a second volume to a lot of these sets and fill it with the actual technical or high-flying classics from the event (even if featuring midcarders) to appease those of us that prefer a higher standard of match than simply waiting for a big boot followed by a legdrop!

  10. SRB says:

I really like the art here, gets me back into the old WCW when they were still doing things right, before the NWO exploded and before they were so obsessed with putting WWE out of business. You’ve got Flair, Savage, Hogan, Steamboat, and my favorite RICK RUDE. nice job WWE, but there’s no point in picking this up unless you grab the Blu-Ray.

  11. Bill says:

So are we still going to have to buy the FYE Dvd and the Blu-ray in order to get the entire content for this release, or has there been any word on a possible FYE exclusive Blu-ray with everything?

    • SRB says:

That’s my understanding. Personally, I’m just going to pick up the Blu-Ray. I refuse to play WWE’s little multi-edition games. Another $25 for another match or two? No thanks

  12. Coliseum Video Fan says:

Can anyone explain what technicolor on a DVD does/is?

  13. Cody Schields says:

Saw that NWA logo and at first thought it was an AWA logo. Clash of the Champions probably seemed too flashy of a concept to Verne Gagne, with the damn kids and their zima, loud music, and their pacman video games!

  14. Harry Faversham says:

    Packaging looks great to me.

  15. Dave says:

Looks like the “CLASH” and “CHAMPIONS” is embossed. Covers looks great though.

  16. Avatar of Mark D Mark D says:

“Approx. running time: 7 hours” :(

    • SRB says:

Agreed Mark. There were 35 clashes I think and were about 90 minutes each. Were getting maybe 7 hours??? Come on!

  17. nightmare says:

Cover looks like a foil cover which is cool but I’ll pass I am not really into the old stuff much.

  18. KarlKayfabian says:

    Is Ventura’s commentary left intact?

  19. Salim M says:

    Looks awesome
